The pelican on the sounding board together with its nest resembling a crown of thorns was carved out of one large wooden block. While the pelican visually seems to be larger than the pulpit\u2019s figures, it was actually carved out of a wooden block that was shorter than those used for the pulpit\u2019s figures. The pelican with three chicks that crowns the pulpit\u2019s sounding board differs from the pelicans of the retables in the churches at Vigala and Hageri as well as the pelican of the Karuse Church pulpit, all of which are associated with Ackermann\u2019s
