As can be read from the panels of the inner side of the pulpit\u2019s corpus, the pulpit\u2019s renovators were the cabinetmaker J. Johanson, the painter Kalff, and the \u2018artist damoiselle\u2019 S. v. K\u00fcgelgen.<\/p>\n
The Baltic German female artist Sally von K\u00fcgelgen was from the famous K\u00fcgelgen artists\u2019 dynasty and had also previously worked on decorating churches \u2013 for instance, she created three apse paintings for Tallinn\u2019s Church of Charles XI. In coating the Juuru pulpit\u2019s figures with polychromy, the artist has carefully followed their forms. K\u00fcgelgen used various golden ornaments to decorate the clothing and attribute \u2013 the globe with a cross \u2013 of Christ as Salvator Mundi as the figure that was more important than the evangelists and the angels. Christ the Invincible, which crowns the sounding board, is painted with admirable subtlety of colour and emotion.
