Christ’s hands on John the Baptist
When viewed from a distance, it cannot be seen that one hand of the John the Baptist, who decorates the Türi Church retable, has two elbows. The reason for this anomaly is the circumstance that by the end of the 19th century, the statue’s hands had gone missing and were replaced by the hands of Christ the Invincible, which had been taken down from the retable’s summit. Thus one of John the Baptist’s hands acquired two elbows, and Christ’s victory flag ended up in his other hand.
