Ackermann’s carved figures and ornamentation
Classical proportions and a great degree of fidelity to nature characterise figures carved by Ackermann. Each personality who is depicted – St. Peter, Salvator Mundi, St. Paul, St. Andrew, and St. John – has his own distinctive countenance and character. The hands and feet of the figures, altogether their blood vessels and finger- and toenails, are carved out very precisely. The garments of the figures droop in sharp folds and angles, which is characteristic of Ackermann’s later creative period covering 1690–1710.
