The original location of the pulpit in Rapla Church
The pulpit was commissioned for Rapla’s medieval church, which was demolished in 1900. The pulpit was attached to the chancel arch and located on its northern side. Access to the pulpit was originally by way of a staircase with a balustrade and door portal that was situated in the congregation space. The sacristy was situated in the northern outer corner of the church’s chancel and nave, from where direct access to the pulpit was later opened up through the wall. Sermons given from the pulpit could also be observed from the sanctuary, where pews were situated for the more important members of the congregation.
