Ackermann-like sculptures

FeaturedRaplaPuto

The carving technique of the figures resembles that of the sculptures of the pulpits in the churches at Lihula, Juuru, and Tallinn’s Swedish St. Michael’s Church. The garments of the figures are Ackermann-like. Their densely bunched folds and the deep furrows between the folds make the garments realistic. The hands, attributes, and wings of the figures have been carved separately and thereafter attached to the figures.

The putto above the door portal, which bears close resemblance to the one on the pulpit of Juuru Church, was lost during the relocation of the altar.
