Figures carved by Ackermann in Simuna Church
The statues of St. Peter and St. Paul at Simuna resemble the figures of St. Peter and St. Paul from two years later on the door portal of the pulpit at Tallinn’s Cathedral in the softness of their carving contour. Ackermann became considerably more character-oriented in depicting males, and his carving contour became sharper in the following years, as the comparison of these statues with the figures of St. Peter and St. Paul on Tallinn’s Cathedral retable affirms.
The figures of St. Peter and St. Paul can also be compared with St. Peter and St. Paul from the Retable of Vigala church, as they were completed around the same time.
