August Georg Wilhelm Pezold’s paintings, which were installed on top of the old, darkened altar paintings in 1856, bear the spirit of sentimentalism within them. Pezold’s The Last Supper is the artist’s freehand copy of a painting by the Catholic Johann Friedrich Overbeck, who was one of the main representatives of Nazarene art.
