Different styles of sculptures: Matthew and Paul
A new statue that is clumsier compared to Ackermann’s earlier figures appears to have been carved in place of the statue of Matthew, which had been removed from the pulpit. Since the type and manner of carving of Matthew’s statue greatly resembles the figure of Paul standing on the stair balustrade, Matthew’s statue can also be secondary. At the same time, there is a second possibility – the statues of Matthew and Paul originate from Ackermann’s time, but they were carved by an assistant of his. Analysis of the polychromy of the figures supports this version.
